LOCAL JOBS, ECONOMIC & ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS...
The Efficient, Economical and Wise Use of Our Resources Could Bring a Zero-Waste Future to Nanaimo and Region...
This past week has been busy. Along with having a half-dozen of the guests and speakers stay at our farm - prominent business owners, youth and non-profit alike - I was able to participate in Nanaimo's International Zero Waste Conference (Oct 2-4). Below are a few photos from Friday's workshops.
It is amazing to me how many jobs, economic and environmental benefits are created by reducing, re-using and being committed to a zero-waste approach! I was (am) totally impressed by the level of professionalism, the businesses and the major initiatives of the organizers, sponsors and supporters.
This is a major event for the Island and BC, with Nanaimo and our region taking leadership in this important debate. After hearing about all the jobs and economic returns from a zero-waste approach I sincerely hope that Vancouver's incinerator proposal will be shelved. Our short and long-term future will be served, in favour of the community and region, by adopting a zero waste program.
As the website says, "This effort is the product of over 50 speakers from over 15 countries, countless volunteer hours by over 40 people and the support of over 50 not-for-profit organizations, businesses and government organizations who all want authentic Zero Waste solutions."
