A Little Bit About Me
My thanks for this chance to run for the NDP nomination. I would be proud and honoured to represent Nanaimo-Ladysmith. Basically I’m a down to earth person honest and straight up. I work hard at my job and as a volunteer.
Along with representing the interests and wishes of residents here I would like to bring my experience as a registered nurse to Parliament.
My work with seniors similarly offers insight on housing, medical and support services so desperately needed for quality health care in Canada. And as a farmer these last ten years I have become very familiar with the challenges of local food supply, and related food security issues.
I also believe that women make a difference when they get involved. For me that meant working with others in the community to open Haven House for abused women in Nanaimo, and in 1981 forming the BC/Yukon Society of Transition Houses
At university I met my husband, Laurie Gourlay, and over the 38 years we have both been actively engaged on Boards and in events.
Lucky enough to travel extensively through North America, and been twice around the world, I hope the experience I’ve accumulated over a rich life might now be put to good use in Parliament ...addressing many of the issues in Canada which are in need of strong and firm direction after so many years of Conservative and Liberal mismanagement.
